About NSACT

The Nova Scotia Association of Counselling Therapists (NSACT), formerly the Nova Scotia Association of Professional Counsellors (NSAPC), was established in 1995.

NSACT became a non-statutory, self-regulating body in 1999. In order to better serve and protect the public, the organization has developed a comprehensive set of Bylaws, and adheres to a nationally recognized Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for professional counsellors.

There is also an extensive mechanism for dealing with complaints against members of NSACT.

The objectives of the Association are to

-- establish and maintain a registration process for members who meet specific educational and experience criteria

-- regulate the practice of clinical therapy in Nova Scotia by its members.

-- promote public awareness and support for the practice of clinical therapy in the province.

-- promote the professional development of counsellors

-- develop and promote legislation to license and to govern the practice of clinical therapy by Registered Professional Counsellors

-- provide opportunities for persons engaged in or interested in clinical therapy to share information, research findings, viewpoints and common concerns.

The NSACT offers a full range of professional supports for qualified practitioners in the art and science of counselling therapy by promoting education, expertise, integrity and justice in all practices of therapy and counselling.
